Multiplication Times Tables Check

Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)

From June 2020, a new Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) became statutory for our Year 4 children.

The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether Year 4 pupils can fluently recall their multiplication tables.

The MTC focuses on the fluent recall of multiplication facts, as set out in the National Curriculum (2014) statutory programme of study for mathematics at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The national curriculum states:

“By the end of Year 4, pupils should have memorised their multiplication tables up to and including the 12 multiplication table and show precision and fluency in their work.”

The MTC is delivered as an online, on-screen digital assessment and takes each pupil less than five minutes to complete.

How can I help my child?

Times tables are learnt best when practised regularly and in short bursts. Here at Woodlands Primary School, we use Times Tables Rock Stars both online and on paper to support children’s learning. Your child’s login details can be found on the inside cover of their reading diary. If you are unsure, please ask your child’s class teacher.

There are many other ways you can help your child at home too.
