School Counsellor & Safeguarding Lead
My name is Claire Brierley and I am the School Counsellor and Safeguarding Lead here at Woodlands. I have worked with children and families for 19 years and joined the School Team in 2011.
My role is to ensure that children are ready and able to learn, by addressing any problems or concerns that they, or members of their family might have, so that they can do their very best in school. I liaise closely with parents and teachers to plan a way forward; to ensure that children feel safe, happy and supported.
I work closely with teachers to identify pupils who may benefit from my input or require specific interventions to be put in place. I work with children who need time to talk, relaxation techniques, bereavement support, sleep counselling, are young carers, need help with anger management, are lacking in self-esteem and much much more.
I feel pupils learn better if their families are aware of their school life, I liaise with parents and carers to help them become part of the school community. I build close professional relationships with parents and offer assistance, advice and guidance and refer to additional agencies when required.
