Roles and Responsibilities of Governing Body

The Governing Body, in conjunction with the Headteacher, is responsible for the strategic planning within the school, agreeing policy and procedures with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement and pastoral care.

Our responsibility is to set the goals and strategy for the school.  Specific duties include setting staffing levels, agreeing the school budget, ensuring that a broad and balanced curriculum is delivered as well as monitoring health and safety of pupils, staff and visitors together with the management of the school premises.

The Governing Body is made up of parent governors, elected by the parents of pupils at the school, staff governors including the Headteacher, Local Authority appointed Governors and Community Governors.  The team is made up of a variety of people from different backgrounds but who all share the passionate belief that Woodlands should be a happy, successful, school where every child matters.

The Governing Body operates within 4 sub committees that meet at least termly: Finance, Personnel, Curriculum and Premises/ Health & Safety.  These committees feed back actions/recommendations to the full Governing Body which also meets once a term.

Curriculum Committee

The Curriculum Committee has the responsibility to ensure that the National Curriculum is taught to all pupils and to draft and implement curriculum policy.  It is also responsible for standards of teaching and to set challenging targets for pupil achievement.

Personnel Committee  

Personnel Committee has the job of appointing the Headteacher and Deputy (via a selection panel), establishing disciplinary/capability procedures and determining the staffing structure for the school.

Finance Committee    

The Finance Committee has responsibility for the approval of the budget plan for each year and to monitor expenditure and make any financial decisions which affect the whole school.

Premises and Health and Safety Committee  

The Premises, Health and Safety Committee ensure that the school has adequate building insurance, a strategy for ongoing repairs and maintenance and ensuring that any health and safety issues are met.
